Comments:
“This is my second Arched Concepts project. I changed the way the arched trusses were attached to the posts making it a much stronger building than the first barn I built. I stained all of the trusses to protect the wood from the sun and covered it with a 6 mil greenhouse film from teksupply.com. ” – J. D. Linscott
Project Log:
Task Name | Approx. Labor Hrs. | Notes |
---|---|---|
Prepare Site - Leveling | 15 | Dug into the bank to provide a bit of winter insulation. |
Layout Hole Locations | 2 | Used string for the layout process. |
Dig Holes | 5 | Because of the glacial till, I wasn’t able to just dig holes so I dug a ditch where the walls were going to be. The ground here is like digging in a sandbox – one shovel full out, two fall in. |
Build Arched Trusses | 16 | Build arched trusses in the shop. Reworked the tooling for more consistency. |
Corner Posts | 4 | Put the corner posts up and braced them with 2" x 4"'s. |
Mid Posts | 15 | Put up and braced the middle wall posts. |
Truss Installation | 4 | Changed the way the trusses were attached to the posts. Much better than the first barn. |
Purlins | 1 | Used 2" nylon straps for the purlins. |
Gravel Floor | 2 | Brought the gravel floor up to the bottom of the PT Splash board. |
End Framing/Finishing | 10 | We finished end framing on both ends. |
Side Wall Covering | 8 | Put up the 2" x 6" and 1" x 4" red wall boards. |
Cover Installation | 6 | Installed the plastic on the front and back, then installed the cover over the main section. Attached the plastic by rolling up the ends in short pieces of ¾” pvc tubing, by screwimg the tubing to the structure. |
Install Front Doors | 3 | Installed a storm door for the entrance. Really looks great! |
